Summary
This book is a journey through aging gracefully and all the drama and amusement that can come along with it. Georgia is reaching a milestone birthday and is in a period of change in her professional and personal lives. Facing spending the rest of her life alone, she reaches back into her dating history to see what she can learn…and who may still be there. Filled with unexpected life changes in family, friendships and relationships, this is a read that helps the reader embrace all the surprises that come with the passage of time.
What I Liked
Georgia was surrounded by love. It looked different in every friendship and relationship, but she was not alone and I loved that for her. She showed courage in reaching out to past loves, even if I thought it was distasteful at times. And she was brave in tapping into her creative side. She was accepting of her friends and was a supportive and respectful mother. It was nice to see how friendships change as people become parents and deal with careers, health and grief. Though the ending did not appease me, it is a happily ever after and I can appreciate that.
What I Learned
I was reminded that it’s never too late to fulfill your dreams, especially if you’ve never taken the chance to live your own dreams instead of someone else’s. It’s never too late to check your biases and let new information and/or wisdom enlighten you. You don’t always have to be set in your ways. I learned that friendships are important, and that good, honest friendships (sisterhood in this case) are vital. All change isn’t bad change. It doesn’t have to be greeted with fear. Life can pleasantly surprise you.
Reading Recommendation
I recommend this book as a weekend read to anyone who is looking for a bit of hope in love or in need of a reminder of where to look for love and support around them. Anyone, especially in their 40s or 50s, that is considering starting over or making a pivot in their lifestyle, may find this comforting and encouraging.
